Texas Health Resources VP SPORTS MEDICINE in Arlington, Texas
The Vice President Texas Health Sports Medicine program is the senior leader responsible for establishing the vision, execution and outcomes management for Ben Hogan Sports Medicine services across Texas Health. The Vice President, working directly with System Zone Leaders, THPG and UTSW, establishes the strategic planning, program development, operations management and marketing strategy for all Texas Health Ben Hogan Sports Medicine Centers as a nationally recognized, best in class sports physician therapy and performance enhancement services.
The Vice President, Sports Medicine has the following duties and responsibilities:
Strategy and Master Planning
•In coordination with Texas Health systems services leaders and Zone Leaders, ensures a long range master plan for the service line including without limitation;
-Deployment of new programs/services to meet demand
-Growth/business development strategies
-Priorities for capital resource allocation
-Branding and marketing strategies
-Workforce management plan
•Develop, monitor, and evaluate service line KPI’s reflecting the relationship with THR and entity or zone KPI's. Actively engage appropriate stakeholders on a regular basis to promote effective customer relationships and drive departmental KPI results.
•Use benchmark data and evidence based practices from internal and external resources to identify opportunities for improvement. Create business practices and strategies necessary to execute on improvement, patient, safety and clinical practices.
Quality, Safety and Outcomes
•Ensure quality, safety and clinical performance management measures are in place to support clinical process and protocol decisions. Ability to demonstrate clear line of sight to improve clinical outcomes, performance efficiency/cost effectiveness and client/patient/employer satisfaction.
•Develop infrastructure for data mining and decision support for return to sport measure, physician and client satisfaction, safety, patient and consumer outcomes.
•Regularly involves stakeholders (physicians, system and hospital leaders) in validation of measures and actively explores industry benchmarks as part of performance management methodology.
•Works collaboratively with entity and system medical, physical therapy, nursing, management and support staff to improve process and outcomes. Identifies and implements ways to simplify processes and reduce costs of care to ensure competitiveness in the market.
Research, Education and Innovation
•Working with the Medical Director for Orthopedic Sports Medicine Research, Education and Innovation, is responsible for:
-Redesigning and implementing new clinical and service models of care and determining care pathways/protocols for system wide adoption.
-Assessing, planning, and supporting research activities based on best use of resources and Texas Health strategic direction. Ensure research agenda is results oriented and driven by effectively balancing organizational and individual stakeholder needs. Research efforts should improve patient care; support return to sport, create new knowledge of relative to sports medicine and enhanced performance.
-Supports appropriate publishing of results to transition best practices to application in the field and to promote credibility of programs and services.
-Develop and implement residency programs that provide outstanding value to training, productivity, education care and research. Develop opportunities and conduct programs that are aligned to Texas Health workforce pipeline and client demands as defined by strategic plans.
Operations Efficiency and Performance Management
•Prepare the operating and capital budget for areas of responsibility. Manage approved budget and adjust strategies as needed to meeting budget expectations.
•Develop operations, people and program structure to deliver services aligned with approved strategy, available resources, established demand and operations efficiencies. Proactively plan for the optimal return on investment for services and operations.
•Responsible for the appropriate delegation and direct oversight of labor costs and the established productivity targets and determine the appropriate number and skill mix of staff while balancing competency, patient needs, patient outcomes, and patient safety.
•Evaluate employee and patient satisfaction to determine gaps between results and expectations, engage stakeholder groups to promote effective relationships, and provide prompt resolution to issues and concerns.
•Promote professional growth, development, and accountability in staff, students and colleagues by evaluating performance while holding staff accountable for achieving goals and objectives.
•Oversee the selection, retention, and development of qualified staff. Coach, mentor, and evaluate performance expectations while recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments.
•Lead staff and managers in assigned areas in ethical decision making while using professional behavior that reflects the THR code of ethics and advocates for consistent ethical application of THFW/THR patient care philosophy.
•Closely collaborates with entity Presidents on the deployment of capital and operating resources
•Collaborates with entity-based Therapy leaders on BHSM clinics. Regionally responsibly for operations of multiple BHSM sites.
•Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Associated Clinical or Business Discipline
•Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Physical or Sports Therapy, Physicians and DNP or closely related discipline.
•10 years of relevant health care experience preferably in a nationally ranked sports medicine or therapy program preferred
•5 years Management and leadership experience and 3 years prior experience directing and leading a healthcare, sports medicine or physical therapy service line at a system level with multi-site sports/therapy medicine
•Must be an experienced executive with credibility in the health care and sports medicine field who has attained superior results in competitive and/or difficult reimbursement markets
•Possess proven ability to develop research, clinical trials and related infrastructure
•Strong leader who is a facilitator, problem solver and builder of relationships and business.
•Demonstrated comfort level with physicians and ability to manage within a highly matrixed, complex organization
•Understands and can effectively seek physicians’ input and values and integrate ideas without compromising other system, operations or service line goals
•Excellent presentation skills and organizational management skills with the ability to manage and develop high performance teams
•Demonstrates high energy and ability to respond to challenges of managing a service line in a highly competitive market
