IHS Energy is seeking to appoint a Senior Analyst with experience in Chinese oil market as part of the company's oil markets, midstream, downstream and chemicals (OMDC) research practices, based in Beijing, China. This position is expected to contribute to subscription services through primary market research and report writing and also to consulting projects as and when required.

The Senior Analyst will have responsibilities as follows -

  • Research and analysis of oil market data such as supply, demand, trade and pricing information from proprietary IHS and publically available sources

  • Maintain and update various databases and models used for research and analysis activities including long and short term supply demand balances and pricing models

  • Help the Team Lead in developing forecasts of Chinese refined products supply/demand and producing regular reports on a timely manner

  • Analyze complex data and Interpret technical information helping in internal research activities and guiding clients to insightful answers

  • Work closely with colleagues from other offices within and outside the region and other IHS teams such as Automotive, Maritime, and Chemicals to improve research activities in terms of quality and efficiency

  • Build and maintain industry relationships and contacts

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates should demonstrate the following education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative subjects; an engineering degree is preferred, but not essential

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related research and/or analytical role, typically acquired by working in the industry, government, or consulting

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and quality control skills along with special attention to detail

  • A self-starter with the ability to work to deadlines and prioritize a complex workload with limited supervision

  • Excellent Excel skills and proficiency with other MS applications required (Word and Powerpoint)

  • Good English writing, verbal and presentation skills

  • Must be flexible with the ability to work collaboratively
