WSP USA has an immediate opening for a Project Accountant to be based in our Dallas, Texas office in support of our Texas area projects. The right candidate must be detail-oriented, have good organizational and communication skills, and have a basic understanding of accounting principles. This person must be capable of working under pressure with tight deadlines and multiple responsibilities, and working independently and efficiently under minimal supervision.

The Project Accountant provides non-technical support to a project management team. This involves interaction with area and regional management, project managers, clients, and sub-consultant representatives regarding contract interpretation, and financial analysis. This position also partners with Project Subcontract/Contract Administrators and Project Billers to ensure that contract compliance and quality procedures are met. Project Accountants interact with clients, subconsultants, corporate office, project managers, and internal project review management with regard to financial status of the projects and assure that all data (entered in Oracle) on assigned projects, including funding, budgets and project maintenance is current.

Job Duties Include:

  • Read and interpret prime contracts

  • Project set-up and work breakdown structures

  • Monitoring project performance

  • Review cost proposals and contract supplements

  • Tracking of project budgets versus expenditures

  • Estimate potential overruns

  • Track unbilled costs, and unpaid invoices

  • Works with management to analyze the financial status of their assigned projects and develop strategies to address concerns

Job Requirements

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience in related field)

Experience/Skills Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project accounting and contract administration

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Understanding of accounting and contracting principles

  • Attention to detail

  • Capable of taking initiative

  • Works well as part of a project team

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Oracle

  • Experience with an engineering, construction or consulting firm
