Role Summary:

The Remote Operations Services group is launching a Drilling Performance Analysis service that will evaluate real-time drilling data and make comparisons to offset legacy data used to develop technical limits and KPIs. Exceptions noted within the data are used to identify lost time and drilling performance improvement opportunities. Analysts must have a strong drilling background (SLS, Directional or LWD preferred), and must be capable of interpreting the real-time data and effectively communicating these findings to internal and external customers. The findings are communicated as technical reports and/or presentations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading technical support, configuration and monitoring of real-time feeds from well site systems

  • Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements

  • Duties include working with BHGE and customer IT groups to ensure service resiliency and information security policies are fully aligned

  • Test new releases of real-time software applications

  • Ensure email and telephone requests are recorded using the standard incident tracking system

  • Work with well site engineers and customers in identifying and evaluating potential inefficiencies in drilling operation

  • Effectively mentor real-time operations staff

  • Provide high level of technical support to well site and office based customers

  • Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new systems

  • Ability to recognize and improve on process inefficiencies within the group, trouble shoot systems and perform root cause analysis

  • Manage special projects as assigned

  • The engineer will office in Houston, Texas, but may be required to travel within the U.S. if placed on a project outside the Houston area

  • Visits to the customer’s office and rig site will be required from time to time


  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Science, Engineering, Geosciences, Computer Science or related field

  • 6+ years of experience in oilfield operations

  • 2+ years of drilling engineering experience

  • In-depth understanding of common drilling practices across a wide range of environments

  • Excellent presentation and technical report writing skills

  • Strong attention to details and confidentiality

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Advanced use of software applications including MS Office, e-mail clients, and web browsers

  • Ability to interact with customers at various managerial and technical levels

  • Highly motivated, focused, hands-on, result oriented, strong drive for excellence

  • Team orientation

  • Experience in one or more areas such as MWD/LWD, Directional Drilling, Surface Logging or Completions and Production

  • Basic trouble shooting skills

  • Exposure to real-time systems (Data systems, including transfer protocols, Communications systems, and Visualization systems.)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Good understanding of technical limits concepts, especially as this relates to BHGE downhole tools

  • Experience with Data Transmission protocol such as WITS and WITSML

  • Experience in drilling optimization

  • Ability to write clear concise technical reports and the ability to deliver these reports in presentation mode to customers

  • Strong desire to develop and grow in knowledge and experience

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced dynamic environment
