NAES Corporation O&M Technician - Friendswood in Houston, Texas
NAES Corporation has immediate openings for experienced O&M; Technicians for the initial staffing of the Friendswood Energy Center currently under construction in Houston, TX.
Friendswood is a 121 MW simple-cycle gas-fired electric generating facility under construction in Houston, TX on an existing power plant site. The facility will consist of a Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine with AGC, evaporate cooling, dry low NOx burners and a selective catalytic reduction unit. Upon completion, this facility will support peak energy demands in the Houston Zone of ERCOT.

The O&M; Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis, responding to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions, executing plant shut-down and start-up procedures as required and assuring that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner.
The O&M; Technician is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and mechanical/electrical equipment in the facility. The O&M; Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all power plant equipment and systems.
Operates turbine generators and auxiliaries to include start-up and shutdown. Observes and records readings of required indicators and/or instruments for safe operation within prescribed limits.
Performs preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
Maintains complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
Participates in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to 480 volts.
Conduct trouble shooting and analysis on turbine control systems.
Safely operates plant equipment needed to perform essential job duties, e.g., vehicles, cranes, hoists, welding and cutting equipment, etc. Uses appropriate safety equipment and techniques in the daily performance of all work activities.
Reads and interprets complex blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, and performs both internal and external switching and tagging for mechanical and electrical systems under the supervision of a lead.
Updates station logs, e.g., maintenance repairs and outage logs, time reports, material requisitions, etc. in accordance with the protocols of the plant. Completes appropriate plant documents to requisition necessary plant parts, e.g., purchase order request, work order, etc.
Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.
The O&M; Technician reports to the Plant Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
Two or more years work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable.
Previous mechanical or electrical experience desired in addition to operations experience.
Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique maintenance problems as they occur is desirable.
Must be able to work from blueprints and be skilled in the use of hand and power driven tools.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent organizational skills.
