This position is for an Exploration Geophysicist in Hess's Guyana Stabroek Exploration Team. The focus area for exploration in the Stabroek license spans multiple play types across a vast exploration license in Guyana. An active drilling program includes geophysically supported prospects requiring careful quantitiative geophysical analysis. Competence with both geophysical and geological interpretation-evaluation is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience with rock physics, seismic inversion, quantitative amplitude evaluation at the basin and prospect scale. The position will utilize a mix of skills integrating geology with quantitative geophysics to better define both stratigraphic and structural prospects. The individual will be part of an integrated exploration team putting together drill ready prospects and seeing them through from concept through execution including operations as a non-operator. Team boundaries are fluid and often support is required of individuals across exploration, appraisal, and development. This position will have high profile in the company and be under tight deadlines and is ideal for a dynamic high-energy individual seeking a significant opportunity for impacting the company’s future. The position reports directly to the Guyana Stabroek Exploration Team Leader.
*ROLE / RESPONSIBILITIES*
Regional 2D and 3D seismic interpretation of entire basin area and integration of well logs and seismic stratigraphy with quantitative geophysics
Following processing and reprocessing projects with an eye on getting the data to the highest quality the first time through
Opportunity identification, evaluation, and prospect maturation through economic valuation
Probabilistic assessment of petroleum volumes, risk, and working with PreDevelopment to determine economic value and risk of multiple prospects
Strong individual contributor and team player
Effective project management, ability to multi-task
Mentoring of colleagues and junior staff
Active participant in partner TCMs with ability to influence operator with technical work and sound reasoning
*SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:*
Minimum of 7-years experience, Exploration specific experience strongly preferred
Experience with full wave-form inversion, AVO analysis, gather conditioning and general prospect geophysical analysis inclding seismic attribute analysis
Experience and expertise to include: subsurface mapping, well-seismic integration, cross sections, fluid systems, probabilistic volumetrics, and risking.
Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement.
Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
Well developed sharing, listening, and collaboration skills are highly valued
Comfortable with aggressive timelines
Ability to manage projects with strong focus on delivery and results
Paradigm preferred (other interpretation application experience is valued)
Masters of Science, Geoscience required
