Position Description

The Role:Platts seeks a Senior Writer, Mexico Oil & Gas. This subject-matter expert in oil, gas or power markets will write news and analysis content leveraging Platts in-house markets and analytics resources. The right candidate will actively engage with the industry through conferences and company visits to learn the most important issues facing market participants.

The position also serves as a Platts Latin America lead, helping coordinate stringer coverage for the Platts Energy News team when needed.

The Location:Houston Texas or Mexico City, Mexico

The impact:The writer will produce differentiated, thought-provoking stories and analysis to feed the highly regarded oil and gas Platts products including Oilgram News and Gas Daily. This position has the responsibility for generating content ideas and contributing to print and digital media for the Americas Energy News team.

What we look for:An understanding of Mexico’s oil, gas and power markets with an emphasis on supply/demand fundamentals. The role requires a highly motivated individual with great interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage frequently with industry, market and government sources.

Responsibilities:

Writes in-depth news and analysis pieces on key developments in Mexico’s oil, gas and power markets

Interfaces with Platts Market Reporters and Analytics team to enhance stories with proprietary data

Liaises with production team to produce graphics to enhance news and analysis pieces

Attends conferences and company meetings to learn about the most important issues facing market participants

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor degree required. Journalism, Economics, Business and/or Finance

5 years writing about commodity or energy markets, preferably oil, gas or power

Fluent Spanish, English

Analytical skills with proficiency in Excel
