General Description

Position Summary:

The QA Manager for PL team in MPEL (Mobile Product Engineering Lab) is responsible for leading a team to coordinate and lead various software/hardware initiatives which will help define the next-generation products and consumer services. There will be significant co-work with QA and R&D teams to ensure successful execution of wireless carrier approval. The incumbent will analyze quality of issues reported by the carrier and the results to implement new strategies for further improvement. Incumbent will also oversee the schedules and tests on other high quality mobile products and other related items such as product design, product line post-launch support, quality assurance, and device lifecycle management. Incumbent will be focused on driving improvements in product quality through customer feedback and metrics, data analysis, and device troubleshooting.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will:

  • Create product quality team and make resource plans to maintain project schedule and milestones along with product approval schedules for each carrier.

  • Manage communication with internal teams (R&D, QA, and PM) to manage every issue and feedback from each respective team and continued communication with carriers.

  • Must attend weekly meetings with carriers and will need to share with other internal teams.

  • Accurately translate customer issues into specific tasks for all functional areas and proactively capture, track, and drive all issues to closure.

  • Manage, track, and execute project schedules, milestones, and deliverables for executing wireless products from wireless carrier lab entry to wireless carrier approval.

  • Develop deep understanding of mobile handset products from customer operational perspective

  • Stay informed on the latest test tools, techniques, trends and methodologies and critically adopt them, when appropriate or necessary

  • Responsible for planning, processing and performing all given tasks in an efficient manner with assistance from senior engineers and the supervisor.

  • Assist in writing general engineering and functional specifications to meet detailed product requirements developed by the product teams.

  • Assist in developing executive-level responses for quarterly business reviews/vendor scorecard review for all product quality concerns.

  • Establish and maintain a quality data warehouse to encompass complete product quality through reporting structure based on product lifecycle.

  • Identify and drive post launch product improvements through maintenance releases or future device development. Also, works closely with reliability team to improve field performance.

  • Review and analyze technical competitive literature to prepare for comparisons to existing STA system features.

  • Assist with recommendations for added features and services by creating technical reports detailing the ways of putting these services and features into STA products.

  • Coordinate analysis to determine industry trends and maintain a competitive edge.

  • Facilitate preliminary product definition discussions and design reviews with STA pro

  • Coordinate with vendors of products and services that are used in conjunction with STA products, and complete compatibility tests of these products and services to ensure interoperability with STA products

  • Obtain pertinent technical documentation from various sources relative to new product development to enable STA products to meet general industry standards and regulatory requirements in order to provide competitive product offerings

  • Gather requirements and specifications of applications and understand the test scope, schedule, effort, resources, and execution plan.

  • Works closely with MPEL (Mobile Product Engineering Lab) TL team in the US and S/W Engineering and Development Group in HQ.

  • Must be able to influence others in acceptance, approval, and to provide technical clarification.

  • Generate professional reports from test results and ability to make presentations.

  • Strong and effective interdepartmental communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of client and staff.

  • Provide general administrative support to the organization

  • Provide recommendations to management concerning issues detected.

Necessary Skills / Attributes

Background/Experience

(Minimum qualifications required to perform this job)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Also, any relevant engineering experience of at least 6-7 years in wireless telecommunication industry may apply.

  • Prior experience in product development, product quality and data analysis is highly preferred.

Necessary Skills/Attributes

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to influence others without direct management support.

  • Effective working knowledge of smartphone, operating systems (OS), and mobile wireless telecommunications technology - GSM/WCDMA/LTE.

  • Ability to gather and analyze data from multiple sources, prepare spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and tables of information and to plan and prioritize multiple work assignments.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, communication(verbal and written) skills, and organizational and documentation skills

  • Excellent leadership skills to widely gain respect and influence.

  • Ability to communicate to all levels of management and prioritize day to day activities to align with team goals.

  • Develops and maintains excellent proactive, working relationships with all appropriate levels within and outside the company.

  • Works independently and in a team environment, in order to achieve personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames. Perform to complete tasks and objectives that are clearly defined and guided by upper management.

  • Korean language writing/speaking preferable

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions: The position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

  • Work is generally performed in an office desk or lab environment.

  • Requires considerable movement and transportation of equipment or samples with a high security mentality

  • Performs work under time schedules which are normally periodic or cyclical and include: time sensitive job stress, fatigue, intellectual challenge, constant technical data feedback, language barriers, and product management stress.

  • Highly ethical personality preferred to handle unpublished samples and equipment. (Requires not to disclose all information and knowledge to public)

  • Operate a computer keyboard and view a display terminal for more than 70% of work time, including prolonged periods of time.

  • Frequently works additional hours beyond normal schedule.

  • Require business trips for short terms and long terms; short terms from 1 day to 2 weeks and long terms up to more than a month.
