BAE Systems is experiencing continued growth in our Electro-optic/Infrared markets and we are seeking experienced, highly-motivated Hardware Engineers to join our team. The qualified applicants will experience assignments associated with EO/IR, precision pointing, Laser based systems or other related technologies/products at our Austin, Texas location. At BAE Systems we design, development and manufacture highly sophisticated EO/IR and other electronic solutions that service a variety of product areas for government and commercial applications.

The individual selected for this position will be a skilled hands-on mechanical engineer with diverse technical capabilities to execute mechanical design, analysis, and sustainment work on key projects, proposals, or research efforts. The engineer must have proven experience working with complex electro-optical systems, electro-mechanical mechanisms, opto-mechanical assemblies, ground vehicle integration, electronic packaging, design for critical safety requirements, and ruggedized systems fit for military environments and applications. Responsibilities associated with this role include the following:

Product Design & Development. Develop mechanical/opto-mechanical/electro-mechanical hardware designs from conceptual layouts through detailed design, conduct design trade studies/detailed analyses, and integrate component hardware into complex assemblies and subsystems. Individual will be responsible for the design, analysis, documentation, testing, build, and support of products.

Hardware Fabrication and Test.Coordinate and work closely with the technicians in support of the fabrication of prototype/production hardware. Plan, execute, and report the results of laboratory and field testing of prototype and qualification hardware. Provide engineering support to operations in the build of production hardware.

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • BS Mechanical Engineering and 7 years work related experience or MS Mechanical Engineering and 5 years work related experience

  • 7 years of demonstrated experience in product development and support of DoD military electronics/avionics equipment

  • 5 years of experience with complex EO/IR, Laser, and/or precision pointing hardware/systems

  • Solid fundamentals in mechanical engineering design, material science, and analytical methodologies (GD&T, FEA, etc.)

  • Experience with state-of-the-art mechanical engineering design and analysis tools (Pro-E/CREO, ANSYS)

  • Working familiarity with DOD/ASME/ANSI/SAE Standards (MIL-STD-810,

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Motivated self-starter and problem solver with proven experience in leading diverse multi-disciplinary teams

  • Strong closer with focus on adhering to cost and schedule commitments

  • Ability to work closely with manufacturing and operation to meet DTUPC, DFT, and DFM objectives

  • Eligible to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

  • Strong computer skills in basic office and technical programs

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 7 years of applicable experience

  • Demonstrated leadership expertise with experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams

  • Pro-active communicator who is confident in establishing strong trusted interfaces with customer teams and user communities
