Job Description

The Nutritionist is responsible for providing nutrition counseling and education service to student-athletes. Provide assistance setting up team meals for all sports.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year of full-time experience or two years part time, paid or volunteer experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Dietitian.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: ex. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), U. S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding banned substances.

  • Knowledge of eating disorders/disordered eating signs and symptoms.

  • Ability to analyze body composition assessments and make recommendations on energy requirements. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals in a diverse environment.

  • Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as required to fulfill assigned duties and sports assignments.

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to clearly communicate.

  • Master's Degree.

  • Knowledge in sports nutrition counseling.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in sports nutrition counseling.


  • Provides nutrition counseling in consultation with the Director of Performance Nutrition and provides supports during one on one appointments, office hours, and team meeting with staff and student-athletes. Interacts with sports medicine team and strength & conditioning coaches to discuss optimal nutrition practices for teams and individuals. Takes body composition measurements and counsels athletes on nutrition strategies to achieve optimal body composition for performance and overall health. Plans pre-competition and in-competition fueling, and post-competition recovery for home and away competitions.

  • Develops and delivers effective nutrition education presentations and materials. Schedules and prepares team meetings and education materials with the department staff. Researches scientific articles related to sports nutrition, weight management, and supplements.

  • Manages student workers and volunteers to coordinate deliveries, fueling and recovery stations, and travel nutrition supplies.

  • Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members and student workers supervised. Performs other duties as assigned.
