Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company has an opening for a Manufacturing Buyer to support Completions products in Houston, TX. This buyer will support the manufacturing function, by ensuring products and components are procured and delivered in timely manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision, manages delivery and quality performance, cost and inventory management, and customer satisfaction for established suppliers.

  • Manages purchase order execution and product delivery, including placement of on-time schedule agreements, mitigation of billing adjustments / terminations and execution of cost reduction goals. Interviews or contacts supplier salespersons, and secures bids.

  • May expedite the filling of orders by suppliers to meet production.

  • May substitute items within pre-approved guidelines.

  • Works to maximize production capacity in accordance with production and master schedules.

  • Actively uses continuous improvement tools to improve HS&E, quality, delivery, financial performance, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction.

  • Handles special projects as assigned.

  • Conducts all business activities in accordance with BHGE Health, Safety and Environmental policies, Legal Compliance requirements and BHGE Core Values.


  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years procurement, sourcing or similar experience or non-degreed candidate with 8+ years of procurement, sourcing or similar experience.

  • Experience of managing and expediting orders placed with designated third party suppliers

  • Knowledge of purchasing practices, principles and procedures

  • Ability to analyze and present statistical data.

  • Diplomacy and negotiation skills

  • Communication skills.

  • Organization and planning skills

  • Ability to prioritize workload in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

  • Skills in the use of Microsoft Office packages

  • Experience of using SAP in relation to procurement activities

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience of procuring goods required in a manufacturing process

  • Experience gained within a machining/metal and Electronic manufacturing industry would be beneficial

  • Experienced working with Envision
