Job Description

Global Contracts is one of 6 departments reporting directly to the Global Commercial Operations (GCO) Manager. It provides commercially focused contractual advice and administration services to STASCO London, SETL London, Shell West Barbados, STRU Moscow, STUSCO Houston, STC Calgary and STGP North America commercial teams.

In line with the Shell Trading Network Policies and Schedule of Authorities, the Global Contracts Units are responsible for the management of the entire trading contracts process from the provision of pre-deal commercial advice to contract drafting, internal authorization and dispatch of contracts/confirmations and responses. The Commercial Advisor's role is the provision of pre and post deal commercial advice, contract authorization and ad hoc problem solving. Draft, review and send contracts/responses for the purchase and sale of crude/products oil in close liaison with the Commercial Advisor and the trader to ensure that all contracts accurately reflect the terms agreed as recorded in the deal capture system and are fit for purpose. Identify and resolve discrepancies timely. Ensure that contract confirmations are sent and received in a timely fashion. Review and, if necessary, check the use of nonstandard wording in contracts with the Commercial Advisor. Be responsible for identifying opportunities to negotiate new and renegotiate existing master agreements, as well as drafting and sending the agreements in close liaison with the Commercial Advisor, and subsequently following up with customers in order to minimize the negotiation timeframe. Maintain a complete electronic record incorporating contracts, documents and amendments and a record of appropriate authorities obtained. Maintain compliance with local implementation policies, manual of authorities and SOX controls. Incorporate Shell’s five behavioral imperatives into daily work ethic (external focus, commercial mindset, delivery, speed and simplicity).

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in preparing and reviewing contracts/legal documents.

  • An understanding of key contractual terms and their potential implications would be an asset.

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and must be able to work under time pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple activities.

  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and operate with minimal supervision.

  • Must possess good writing skills and be able to effectively communicate with traders in order to understand overall scope of transactions.

  • Must demonstrate good customer service and interpersonal skills, and have a professional attitude.

  • Needs to use good judgment to balance compliance with Shell Trading guidelines with need of trader to be responsive to customers.

  • Must be able to consistently carry out activities to the required standard and can diagnose and resolve problems and adapt aspects of trading contracts is preferred.

  • Ability to recognize issues by analyzing a large volume of information in a systematic and logical way is beneficial.

  • Ability to recommend modification and improvements to the control and financial security framework would be an asset
