Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company has an opening for an Electrical Design Engineer - Intelligent Production Systems at our Hollister facility in Houston, TX. The Intelligent Production Systems (IPS) group is chartered with developing completions that provide our clients with downhole production information and provide means to allow them to control the flow into the wellbore so that they can optimize their production. Intelligent Completions are a relatively new market segment and is one of the fastest growing areas in the oilfield. These systems integrate various products and typically combine hydraulics, electronics, mechanical systems and software to provide the client with the state-of-the-art completion solution. The Design Engineer will provide support to develop and manufacture intelligent wells system product line.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing Front End task in a timely manner.

  • Conducting fracas investigations is a responsibility. These require failure analysis, calculations, and communication of the results to customers.

  • Manufacturing support is a key responsibility of the engineer in this position. Engineering change request is primary method of notification. Any other requests that come from manufacturing will fall under this type of work.

  • Quality notifications are a daily requirement for this position. Quality notifications describe manufacturing defects that require engineering input to ensure the tool will function as required.


  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years tool design engineering experience OR a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years tool design engineering experience

  • Electrical design skills with proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D solids modeling design and analysis software.

  • Good analytical skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of general principles, concepts, theories, and practices of mechanical design.

  • Some travel may be required for field support.

  • The successful candidate will be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Language proficiencies in addition to English are a plus.

  • Drawing checking rights are preferred

  • IPS tools experience is a plus.

  • Design experience with Gauge carriers and Chemical injection products a plus
