Job Description

Shell Oil is looking for an Originator to contribute to the delivery of Gross Margin and Economic Profit related to gas supply from North American Producer segment.

Individual will be responsible for identifying opportunities with the Producer customer segment including asset management and long-term supply agreements.

  • Expert knowledge of the physical natural gas markets and U.S. pipelines.

  • Knowledge and experience with lien based credit structures.

  • High level of commercial acumen and alignment with Shell Energy trade desks.

  • Producer industry experience and relationships.

  • Deal structuring and contract negotiation.

  • Individual will be responsible for leading deal teams in closing commercial transactions.

  • Work across teams (customer channels and trading) to continually monitor market and sector penetration.

  • Experienced at and comfortable with communicating and interacting directly with internal and external executive levels

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including ability to convey new ideas and convince accordingly

  • Strong understanding of commercial risks and mitigants, especially market and contractual risks

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex customer problems with unique and profitable structured solutions

The role requires a broad spectrum of competencies, including new relationship management, experience and understanding of asset-based financing structures, commodities structuring expertise, credit and contracting abilities, self-starter, and the ability to juggle many competing priorities at once. Individual will have to work constructively with many groups within the organization to succeed in this role.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or other relevant field of study required.

  • Minimum of five (5+) years of combined energy, structuring, origination, and /or sales management experience required

  • Experience in Producer segment required

  • In depth understanding of natural gas contact negotiations is a must.

  • Critical to the success of the group is the ability of the individual to contribute effectively and collaboratively in multiple working teams.

  • The individual will need to have advanced skills related to business development, credit enablement, financial/legal deal structuring, key account management, and market / industry knowledge which will allow candidate to successfully create new market opportunities.

  • Asset-backed financing experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated track record of success in sales/origination roles, with clear results against deliverables. Candidate should be able to recount examples of originating, negotiating and closing complex, long-term commodity transactions.

  • In depth understanding of traded natural gas physical hedge products is a must.
