Value Creation Category Director Senior Medical Director Cardiology or Emergency Medicine Strongly Preferred – Virtual This position provides oversight and direction for the Cardiology Value Creation Category Team.

Value Creation Category Teams are responsible for comprehensive affordability strategy development and direction within a category of cost (e.g.

Oncology & Genetic Testing, Musculoskeletal, Emergency Department, Cardiology, Ancillary, and Lab Services).

The Cardiology Category Director will work with organizational leaders to set the strategic direction for the category focusing on cost, utilization management, quality improvement, revenue maximization, and improved provider and member experience.

This position will be responsible for fostering highly collaborative environments, and working with matrix partners to develop holistic approaches that reflect the triple aim.

Also include any relevant scope measures as they pertain to the duties listed below): -Main leader accountable for Affordability Category HCAI target -Oversees and directs work of team, provides oversight and direction for category, responsible for overall business strategy development -Positions the category for the future, looking beyond present situation to conceptualize key trends and identify changing organizational and healthcare system demands -Acts as the main strategic thought leader and enterprise-wide medical cost SME for a category -Directs comprehensive, holistic strategy development and execution in a cost category -Fosters collaboration, works cohesively together with SMEs and matrix partners to positively impact cost within a category -Enables and promotes a highly cohesive and collaborative environment between the Value Creation Project Management Office (PMO) and Regional Affordability -Oversees creation of infrastructure and parameters for work streams -Develops and communicates performance metrics and expectations -Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and results through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff -Maintains clear, concise lines of communication with all matrix partners -Provides oversight and review of coordination of care pertaining to given category (e.g., chronic condition management, utilization management, case management) -Oversees the development, translation, and/or execution of affordability strategies/objectives for a category -Responsible for significant contributions ideation and pipeline development through rigorous evaluation of category environment, underlying medical spend, emerging trends and costs, etc.

-Provides clinical expertise, is a subject matter expert on all things related to Cardiology including but not limited to medical policy, reimbursement policy, coding issues, etc. -Responsible for external society relationships Qualifications (List minimum work experience, educational background, professional licenses, certifications and skills required to perform the job): -Medical degree.

Active and unrestricted medical license (s); Board Certified in an -ABMS or AOBMS relevant specialty. -Cardiology or Emergency Medicine highly preferred.

-Five or more years clinical experience, five or more years in managed care health plan management experience with accountability for business results. -Excellent knowledge of health care industry and familiarity with current medical issues and practices in relevant field - -Ability to form alliances with supporting organizations and work in matrixed environment - -Proven ability to develop relationships with network and community physicians and other providers -Solid negotiation and conflict management skills -Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to influence in executive settings -Demonstrated ability to manage others -Ability to optimize resources using strong interpersonal skills, excellent judgment, and an attitude that fosters teamwork and supports organizational goals.

-Superior presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences -Solid data analysis and interpretation skills; ability to focus on key metrics -Strong team player and team building skills -Strategic thinking with proven ability to communicate a vision and drive results -Creative problem solving skills -Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) -Advanced Business, Public Health, Medical Management degree is a plus Careers with UnitedHealthcare.
