Role Summary:

The Machinist will be responsible to perform complex operation of machine tools to produce/fabricate precision parts. Applies advanced knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Ensures conformance to specifications and continues production consistent with established procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Machinist you will:

  • Machine parts to specifications using tools such as lathes and milling machines

  • Read blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work

  • Perform dimensional layout on all machined parts to confirm conformity to prints and other routing instructions. Ensure applicable documentation is complete ie sign off on job card, SIS (Source Inspections Sheets) etc, and computer entry

  • Possess advanced knowledge of precision measuring tools such as dial and vernier calipers, ID MICS, depth mics, ball mics, etc.

  • Load and touch off tooling applicable to program

  • Identify multiple surface finishes

  • Deburr and stamp parts to specifications

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, jaw attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines

  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly

  • Maintain a clean work area to include emptying waste container, used oil, sweeping chips, replace broken pallets

  • Be able to read job card and determine product to be produced, instructions, specifications, actual machining time, quantities, etc.

  • Observe and follow proper procedures for powering on / off machine

  • Be able to adjust machine offsets ie wear, geometry, cutter comp, workshift, etc.

  • Read program codes such as G-codes, M-codes, S-codes, F-codes, etc.

  • Observe all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and all safety rules / requirements such as machining guards, lifting techniques, slips and falls prevention, etc.

  • Demonstrate ability to operate assigned machine (lathe, Mill) independently with little to no guidance to include applicable set up

  • Assist in equipment set up for Level I Machinists to help eliminate non-conformance and spindle down time

  • Lead, train and coordinate efforts with Level I Machinist to keep them productive and improving their knowledge such as loading parts, loading programs, operating controls, setting offsets, advanced edits, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements

  • Be able to repair nonconformance product and bring to specifications

  • Be able to build machine tools applicable to program Able to write simple and complex CNC programs offline or at the machine and make tool offsets and adjustments

  • Be able to operate all machine tools as required

  • Provide training and assistance to Level I, and Level II

  • Use of advanced trade mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, all varieties of precision measuring instruments, CNC equipment, multi-machine work stations

  • Confer with programming, engineering and supervisor to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly and that output will meet specifications

  • Be able to test and run proto type tooling

  • Work plan easily followed by other operators Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution

  • Minimum 3 years of machining experience

  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required

  • Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities

  • Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required

  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time Desired Characteristics:
