Job Description

The Library Specialist II, under general supervision, provides general customer service and standard or routine library functions related to various specialized disciplines. Performs standard library functions in one or more library units. Under supervision, learns intermediate and more advanced library functions.; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate.

Responsibilities:40% Reference Desk: Provides informational directional service to wide variety of patrons and makes appropriate referrals for questions beyond the scope of training and experience; Assists patrons according to their individual needs with use of web-based databases, reference tools, materials and equipment; Maintains working knowledge of library equipment and troubleshoots as needed; Maintains knowledge of electronic resources, new features, and computer functions; Helps maintain operation of equipment located in the Reference area; Ensures ample supply of library-provided supplies are available for patrons; Works flexible hours as needed in order to accommodate library hours.

20% Library meeting rooms: Responsible for reserving and coordinating meeting room reservations, including preparing weekly schedules for distribution to all service desks; Responsible for sending room confirmations and reminder emails; Oversees equipment usage and assists with technical difficulties when needed; Ensures meeting room facilities are clean and well-organized for each reservation; Resets meeting room tables and chairs to designated configuration a minimum of once a week; Maintain statistics relevant to the number of reservations, total guests, and equipment used in designated meeting rooms; Enforces regulations and policies concerning the use of the library meeting rooms, including sign-in/sign-out procedures, eligibility of room use, and problem solving; Works flexible hours as needed in order to accommodate meeting room schedule.

20% Inventory of library collections: Works closely with the Access Services department, Special Services department, and Reference Services to ensure each collection is undergoing routine inventory; Responsible for performing inventory duties, including scanning, checking reports, looking for missed items, and updating library catalog; Trains student workers to assist with the inventory process; Responsible for running inventory reports to check for missed items; Reports weekly to each departmental supervisor on the progress of their inventory project.

15% Stacks maintenance processes: Routinely pulls student worker shelving flags in the special services and general stacks collections; Checks shelving flags for accuracy and reports any found issues to the respective supervisor; Shelves and shelf reads materials in the reference collection, including straightening and dusting.

5% Performs other duties as assigned and committee assignments.

Required Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four years of experience in a public or academic library or archive; or five years of general clerical or office experience which includes customer service skills, cash handling, managing inventory, and familiarity with research processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and other similar software programs. Knowledge of email and library online research databases. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
